Year 4, Session 3, Week 2
Our heroes have been doing an excellent job this week of identifying the monsters they are facing in the moment and challenging each other to slay them! Which monster do you encounter most often on your journey - resistance, victimhood or distraction? How can you defeat that monster in order to level up?
Writer’s Workshop
ES learned about logos, ethos and pathos and how they play into the power of persuasion. They plan to incorporate these elements into their pet pitch. This week was dedicated to finishing their research on the needs of their chosen pet and begin outlining their pitch.
Quest
During quest time, we visited the continents of Asia, Australia, Antarctica and Africa this week. The learners completed entries for each continent in their “world fact books” and continued to work on their session-long map project.
PE
The Elementary Studio led PE this week. They started with games of Red Light/Green Light and Zombies. Then the ES learners designed an obstacle course with varying levels of difficulty. The Little Heroes really enjoyed the obstacle course! All of the heroes demonstrated responsibility by picking up the equipment when PE was over.
Art
This week, we tied art to our cartography quest by creating flags from different countries around the world. The learners were able to choose which flags they wanted to make and looked at models to find the correct colors. The flags are on display in the window of our studio!
Little Heroes Studio
The Little Heroes learned about the “Day of the Dead” holiday observed traditionally in many hispanic communities. They celebrated by wearing their best sugar skull attire and baking cupcakes! They also had a blast doing yoga together and choosing different poses.
