Session 3 Week 6 Year 5
We completed session three and had a great time on our HJA camping trip! We are beginning a new session all about Ancient Greece. Soon your hero will come home talking about Greek food, architecture, art and mythology!
Quest
This week our heroes completed their final challenge of the session - orienteering! They learned how to use a compass and practiced map reading by going on an imaginary wilderness adventure around the dojang. They used their first aid skills on a “snake bite”, practiced scaring away a bear, came in contact with “poison ivy”, learned how to make a bear bag, and practiced what to do in a lightning storm. They wrapped up the week completing their Feedback 360s on each other which will help determine their freedom levels for the next session, and give them focus points to work on for improvement.
Art
We wrapped up our Mona Lisa art project this week and they turned out fantastic! Every hero’s interpretation of Leonardo Da Vinci’s work is unique. They drew Mona Lisa’s body and shaded her in using colored pencils then modge podged it to their painted canvas.
Guest Hero
Thank you to Ms. Beth Alford for coming to talk to our heroes about her journey as a realtor and explain the house selling process to them. Our learners were very interested and had a LOT of questions. She even brought a cool gadget to demonstrate how she measures square footage of rooms.
Cooking
Mrs. Molley led the heroes in making Italian hot chocolate this week! Italian hot chocolate is thicker and richer than the drink we are used to in the United States.
Birthday Announcement
Happy birthday to Eden! Thank you for sharing cupcakes with the studio!
Camping Trip
Our annual HJA camping trip was so much fun! The older heroes helped their parents pitch tents and demonstrated their fire starting skills. We went on bike rides, played in the woods, made s’mores, and watched the sunset on the beach. At night we held a fire ceremony where we wrote down bad habits that we wanted to break and burned them in the fire. Thank you to all of the families that braved the cold with us and made this trip special. We can’t wait until next year!
