Year 3, Session 2, Week 1
Architecture Quest is off to a great start in both studios! In this quest the older Eagles are working with partners to complete their challenges. Challenges will take them through many of the steps to design a building. So far they have start the beginning stages of this process which includes research, scale and applied mathematics, and working with constraints. Several Eagles have even started to sketch ideas for their "dream ALA". The goals of this quest include introducing the Eagles to architecture as a calling, inspiring a love of design and creation, and instilling a deeper understanding of process. They will discover the importance of knowing when to follow instructions and when to take your own path.
This week Eagles were introduced to Civilization- or "Civ". During civilization discussions Eagles are placed in the shoes of a historical figure facing a difficult dilemma. This allows them to be equipped with the tools, hard questions and lessons that come from studying the lives of heroes. Discussion topics will include history, geography, economics and philosophy all while exposing Eagles to the collective memory of the human race. They will experience a series of Western Civilization, American Civilization and World Civilization challenges and Quests. This week elementary Eagles covered the Protestant Rebellion while the older Eagles covered the Big Bang theory. What was their favorite part of this week's discussion?
During their free-time play the little Eagles decided they wanted to start learning about Eagle bucks. Of courses several of the older Eagles were eager to give a lesson on counting and how Eagle bucks work- the short version. The little Eagles really enjoyed getting their hands on all that money. How effective would Eagle bucks be used in the LE studio? Another pastime many Eagles enjoy is feeding the chickens! Interacting with Skillet and Drumstick seems to be the highlight of many Eagles free-time. They get to run and play outside and sometimes it seems like the chickens want to join in on all that fun and laughter.
A few of the Eagles wanted to lead Writer's Workshop this week. Being an awesome "guide" has been modeled for them so let's see what they can do! How well do you think they performed as stand in guides? Did they execute the Writer's Workshop successfully? )

"I have a surprise for all the Eagles if you would like to meet me in the back" exclaimed Mr. Molley! This week Eagles were able to plant seeds in our garden. There were several types of seeds planted and many eagles pitched in. What do you think will grow first?
Keeping track of points in CORE skills is an important part of the Eagles everyday coursework. It is integral in deciding what Freedom Level they will fall under for the upcoming week. What level does your Eagle typically achieve week to week? Which is their favorite Freedom Level; and how can they maintain that level week to week?
