Year 4, Session 3, Week 1
It’s a new session and we officially have a new hero in the Elementary Studio! Tucker completed his trial week and the tribe has voted for him to join the group. Congrats Tucker and welcome to the ES studio! On Friday, the ES learners decided to trade in their hero bucks for a lunch limo to Chick-fil-A. We also experienced a lot of Halloween fun between costumes, baking, and art!
Quest - Cartography
This session we are going on a journey around the world during quest time! Each day we explore a new continent, and the learners get to research a country of their choice within that continent. Cartography is the study of maps and map making. As a session long project, each hero in the ES studio will be making a detailed map of a different continent. These maps will be on display at exhibition at the end of the session.
Art
This week in art, we had Halloween fun while working with a new skill - 3-D figures! The learners designed their own haunted mansions and then cut out the pieces to make them 3-dimensional. A few took it a step further and made a functional front door!
Writers’ Workshop - Pitch - a - Pet
This session in Writers’ Workshop we are learning how to write a persuasive pitch. They are pitching a specific animal to the studio that they believe ALA should get as a pet. Before they write their pitch, they must thoroughly research the requirements to take care of the animal. Everyone will get to share their pitch at the end of the session and vote on which is most persuasive.
Little Heroes Studio
We had a couple of visits from an education student, Ms. Emily LeBlanc. She came to our studio to gain observation hours for a class but also jumped right in to help! The learners loved her, and she had nothing but great things to say about her perception of ALA’s educational model. She helped with baking cupcakes during Fun Friday. The LH studio also baked a delicious bread pudding for the parents to enjoy during their monthly coffee visit! During ES quest time, the Little Heroes got to participate in a challenge to see who could draw the flags of the United States and Russia. They enjoyed getting to demonstrate their art skills to the older learners!
