Year 4, Session 7, Week 3
This was a fun filled week of exploring new things! We went on a field trip and started the Growing Curiosity quest. This will be the last quest of the school year. We are also able to finally start harvesting some things from our gardens! Our learners have been eating strawberries and mint, and will soon be able to pick tomatoes as well.
In PE we had a dance party and an obstacle course!
This week the Elementary Heroes began their Growing Curiosity Quest. Each learner will have two days where they get to act as a guide and lead a quest topic of their choice. They will write and lead launches and create challenges for their peers to participate in. This quest allows the heroes to explore more things that interest them while practicing leadership.
On Tuesday, the Little Heroes had a picnic lunch outside! They enjoyed the great weather and the shade of the tree in our play yard.
We moved art to Wednesday due to the field trip on Thursday. This week the art project was to draw and paint a picture of the solar system! The learners were able to look at several models of the solar system and we had a discussion about drawing the planets proportionately. They finished their initial drawings and will finish painting the background next week.
On Thursday, we went on a field trip to a STEM event at the local airport! Our heroes were able to listen to presentations from the Civil Air Patrol, Sheriff’s Office, NASA, and the local library. We saw drones and airplanes flying, got to get a close up look at a helicopter and jet, and made bracelets with solar changing beads. We enjoyed having parents join us on this adventure and can’t wait for the next trip!
During morning circle, the ES heroes completed a challenge where they had to figure out how to make 10 squares with an assortment of different sized pieces. For the majority of the challenge they could not talk, use any kind of sign language, or take another piece from someone. They were only allowed to give their piece to another person. For the last two minutes of the challenge they were allowed to talk. We ended with a great discussion about what made this difficult, and the importance of clear communication when working as a team.
Our Little Heroes worked hard this week!
On Friday, the Montessori studio baked pigs in a blanket with the assistance of the older heroes! They pre-heated the oven, cut the dough, and rolled the “pigs” into the “blanket” all on their own.
