Year 4, Session 6, Week 4
We worked hard and got our hands dirty this week! The weather has been awesome and the heroes were able to finish setting up their gardens. Now to maintain them and hopefully harvest some fruits, vegetables and herbs later on!
This week during quest time the ES heroes planted the rest of their garden beds. Each learner will be responsible for maintaining their own garden. They are observing their plants and tracking changes like height, color differences, and new buds. Additionally, they played a kahoot on the function of plant organelles as a fun way to practice the parts of a cell. Finally, our painted lady caterpillars have also changed into chrysalids and we are awaiting for them to emerge as butterflies!
The Little Heroes studio baked a strawberry oreo cake this week. They collected eggs from the chickens at school, cracked them themselves, and mixed the eggs into the batter. They crushed up oreo cookies and placed them in the cake mix before baking. The cake was the perfect balance between tart and sweet, and the oreo cookie gave a nice texture!
In art, the learners were able to use their creativity to draw anything they wanted. Then they used watercolor paints to bring their drawings to life. From mermaids to underground chicken worlds - our heroes have huge imaginations!
In Writer’s Workshop, the ES heroes worked on the final draft of their gratitude letters and began practicing reading it out loud. They are focusing on speaking loudly, clearly, and reading with emotion. They also played charades to practice conveying a message through their face and body language. We can’t wait for their friends and family members to hear what they wrote!
The Montessori studio had a celebration this week where everyone who has completed one of their writing books earned a badge! Congrats to these little heroes for putting in the hard work and seeing it pay off!
The ES heroes wrapped up the week with a lunch limo to Chick-fil-A! They traded in the hero bucks that they earned through doing core skills to buy a trip to a restaurant of their choice for lunch.
The Little Heroes wore green on Friday to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
