Year 4, Session 2, Week 4
Welcome back from Fall Break heroes! It was a short week, but one filled with several exciting experiences. ES had visitors and got to go on a short trip, there was a birthday in the Little Heroes studio, and for “Fun Friday” the reward was s’mores!
Quest - E-ship/Build-A-Business
This week our heroes interviewed entrepreneurs from different local businesses. They gained valuable insight on what it takes to start a business and keep it successful against competitors. Thank you to Mr. Doug Gorman from Gorman Bros Appliances, and Dustin Felton from Rice & Roux, for taking the time to meet with our learners.
On Thursday, ES learned about assembly lines and quality control. They put this concept to the test in real life by forming an assembly line to make 50 sandwiches to donate to the faculty at Gonzales Middle School. The heroes tried making sandwiches individually, then in an assembly line, and discussed which one was more productive. They also experimented with different variations of the line to see which was most effective. Kain, Harper, and Charlie got to take a short trip to Gonzales Middle and donate the sandwiches and chips in person!
Writer’s Workshop - Memoir
This week ES began revising their memoirs using the A.R.M.S. method. They checked their own drafts, as well as their peers’, for anything they could Add, Remove, Move, or Substitute. Next week they are on to publishing and submitting their Writer’s Workshop Memoir badge!
Little Heroes Studio
It was Tucker’s birthday this week so he was able to pick the baking project! He chose for the group to make an LSU themed cookie cake. The Little Heroes sliced the dough into smaller pieces, flattened it onto the tray, and baked the cookie base. Then they dyed the icing a purple color and Tucker colored a tiger decal to put on top. All of the heroes in the studio signed the back of the decal, and Mrs. Gigi laminated it as a birthday keepsake for Tucker!
