Session 4 Weeks 1 and 2 Year 5
We began our journey through ancient Greece and have had so much fun diving into history, art, and mythology! This is a short three week session and the learners are working hard to prepare world class models for exhibition.
Quest
The Elementary Studio has begun exploring all things Greek! They began quest by putting on traditional laurel wreaths and researching the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. Afterwards, they were able to pick various projects to work on such as knitting, sculpting, making toys, and practicing the Greek alphabet. A few heroes have practiced leading their own Socratic discussions after learning about Socrates. We have been reading excerpts from The Odyssey and even tried snacks from Greece!
Art
During week 1 our heroes made their own version of a Trojan horse! They learned about the structure of the horse used during the Trojan war and then created their own using a variety of craft materials.
During week 2 the Little Heroes created clay sculptures inspired by ancient Greek pottery! The Elementary Studio made salt dough maps of ancient Greece to coincide with their work in quest. This work will be on display during their exhibitions!
Cooking
In week 1 the learners decorated Christmas cookies using paintable edible icing! They enjoyed getting to be creative before eating the tasty snack.
In week 2 the heroes cooked Greek chicken skewers! They were able to touch and smell all of the different herbs and spices individually before seasoning the chicken and cooking it on a grill. The chicken was a huge hit with most learners coming back for seconds!
ES Comms
This session in Comms the heroes are writing a pitch for a pet of their choice in the studio. They have researched the costs and care requirements for the pet they want and will read their pitch at exhibition to the parents and guests. The parents will get to vote on who had the most persuasive pitch!
Guest Hero
Thank you to Mr. Jared Braud for sharing your hero’s journey with our learners! Your story about persevering through your visual impairments and earning your black belt was very inspirational!
