Our 2nd Year, Session 1, Week 5
The Eagles expressed to one another how anxious they felt about the exhibition and some even asked the returning Eagles advice on how to help with it.They set high goals and standards for themselves and each other with their upcoming performance!Eagles have finished their lip dub after an Eagle edited the video to show for the exhibition.They have been working hard and practicing how to present their tools and systems.
We asked the Eagles:Imagine this: you are asked to attend an education event in Washington, DC. You’re tasked with representing Active Leadership Academy. You start getting tough questions about how we know this method of education works. You are asked to lead a talk on proof of work. The big question: since you don’t have grades, how do you demonstrate your learning to your parents, your guides, and the outside world?This gives the Eagles the opportunity to be their parent's guides.The best exhibitions are the ones where the Eagles plan and brainstorm. The more ownership they have over the process, the better.
The Eagles had deadlines for their poems and 360 reviews. Should I finish my 360 reviews during free time or at home? This was a great learning opportunity to practice time managing. If an Eagle didn’t complete the necessary tasks to fully participate, then embrace it as an opportunity for reflection and learning.
One of the launches we focused on this week was about keeping the studio sacred.Sacred is an interesting word for this last rule, so I’d like to deconstruct that word choice before we begin our discussion. The word “sacred” dates back to the Latin word sacr, which means “holy.” Of course, that bodes the question what does “holy” mean? Though holy has a few definitions, in this context I think it means, moral and spiritual excellence. So the studio can be thought of as a place where moral and spiritual excellence are expected.
We want to give a shout out to Mrs. Magee for showing our Eagles about different types of plants and how to properly take care of them. They loved it!
The Eagles were running around making sure everything was perfect for exhibition night. They finished their poems, 360 reviews, lip dub, and practicing their parts. Now was the Final Showdown of this part of their Hero's Journey! They bravely stood in front of their parents and explained our Tools and Systems, read their poems, and showed the lip dub they had been working on all session.
