Hard work pays off!

Session 6, Week 5, Year 2

"I finished Lexia!"

One of our Eagles finished Lexia this week and is moving onto No Red Ink! She tells Eagles how she persevered and sacrificed many days of free time in order to finish. All the Eagles gathered around her and congratulated her!

Newton's Cradle!

There is no one specific way to achieve scientific progress. One may be…

  • Explorer – forging a brand new paradigm that enables further study for centuries to come.
  • Puzzler – proposing and testing theories; constantly testing, adjusting, and ultimately improving an existing paradigm; or a
  • Data Collector – carefully gathering and analyzing data; compiling small facts and conclusions and extrapolating them into larger ones, which help define laws of nature and physics.

For Quest this week, we focused on Sir Issac Newton! The Eagles experimented with his laws and wanted to challenge themselves to create their own Newton's Cradle!

Revising Writers Workshop!

The Eagles are currently wrapping up their creative writing stories and asking peers for feedback!

  • What warm feedback would you give the illustrations? Any cool feedback?

  • How would you rate the word choice? How would you rate the illustrations?

How do you practice hard work?

Repetition until mastery: Deliberate practice requires you to keep working on your weaknesses, stay on task, and get feedback until you master your specific goalWorking on weaknesses: Rather than doing things that you already do well, deliberate practice focuses on the things that are hard for youFeedback: Deliberate practice involves finding out what you got right and where you made mistakes by asking a buddy or checking your workFull concentration: Deliberate practice is difficult when you face distractions that make it hard to stay on task, like noise, or people nearbyThese are the challenges the Eagles are faced with everyday and they are in charge of their own hero's journey!
